Project Number: 2022-1-ES01-KA220-HED-000089608 ● Engagement with news: younger generations tend to be more engaged with news content, with many using social media platforms to share and discuss news stories with their peers. ● News consumption habits: older generations tend to consume news at set times throughout the day, such as in the morning or evening, while younger generations are more likely to consume news throughout the day, often on their mobile devices. These differences in news consumption can also lead to differences in the types of news stories that are prioritized and shared by different age groups. Younger generations may be more interested in news that directly affects their lives, such as social issues, while older generations may be more interested in news related to traditional institutions like politics and government. In addition to generational differences in news consumption, there are also differences in the news media itself. Different media outlets have their own biases and agendas and may present news stories in different ways depending on their target audience. For example, a liberal news outlet may prioritize stories about climate change and social justice, while a conservative outlet may focus on stories about immigration and national security (Atske, 2023). It is important to be aware of these differences in news and news media in order to consume news content critically and avoid being swayed by biased reporting. By seeking out diverse sources of information and considering multiple perspectives, individuals, both young and old can develop a more well-rounded understanding of the news. Social media use efficiency Social media use efficacy refers to the perceived ability of individuals to use social media platforms for various purposes such as communication, information sharing, and social networking in an effective and efficient way to achieve their desired outcomes. It involves developing the necessary skills and strategies to use social media in a way that supports one’s goals and overall well-being, while avoiding negative consequences such as addiction or anxiety (CNN Newsource Report, 2021). Some of the examples of social media use efficacy strategies include setting goals, establishing boundaries, and being mindful of the content one consumes (Media Bias Fact Check, 2021). For instance, setting a specific amount of time each day for social media use, and using that time to engage with specific people or content, can help individuals use social media more productively. Improving social media use efficacy requires a combination of self-awareness, goal setting, and the ability to use social media in a way that supports overall well-being. By utilizing the resources and developing these skills, individuals can harness the benefits of social media while minimizing its potential drawbacks (Center for Humane Technology, z.d.). Nowadays social media is also a valuable resource of news and information, and it can be challenging to use social media as a reliable source. Social media platforms are filled with a vast amount of content, some of which is accurate and reliable, and some of which is inaccurate or misleading. Therefore, it is important to develop skills and strategies to use social media effectively as a news source (Newport, 2019). While social media has revolutionized the way news is produced, disseminated, and consumed, its efficacy as a news source has come under scrutiny in recent years. One of the main challenges with social media as a news source is the spread of fake news and misinformation. With millions of people sharing content on social media platforms, it can be challenging to verify the accuracy and reliability of the news being disseminated. This can lead to the
