Clarity This standard requires that information and ideas are presented clearly and precisely, without ambiguity or confusion. To achieve clarity, it's important to use precise language, avoid jargon and abstract concepts, and define terms explicitly. Could you elaborate? Could you illustrate what you mean? Could you give me an example? 2. Accuracy This standard requires that information and ideas are factually correct and free from errors or distortions. To achieve accuracy, it's important to check facts, use reliable sources, and verify information. How could we check on that? How could we find out if that is true? How could we verify or test that? 3. Precision This standard requires that information and ideas are specific and exact, with no unnecessary or irrelevant details. To achieve precision, it's important to be clear about the scope and focus of the information, use specific examples and details, and avoid generalizations Could you be more specific? Could you give me more details? Could you be more exact? 4. Relevance This standard requires that information and ideas are directly related to the question or problem being addressed. To achieve relevance, it's important to identify the key issues and questions, focus on relevant information, and avoid distractions. How does that relate to the problem? How does that bear on the question? How does that help us with the issue? 5. Depth This standard requires that information and ideas are analyzed in depth, with a thorough understanding of underlying assumptions, perspectives, and complexities. To achieve depth, it's important to explore multiple viewpoints, consider underlying assumptions, and analyze the implications of information. What factors make this difficult? What are some of the complexities of this question? What are some of the difficulties we need to deal with? 6. Breadth This standard requires that information and ideas are considered from multiple perspectives, with a comprehensive understanding of the issue or problem. To achieve breadth, it's important to consider alternative viewpoints, evaluate diverse sources of information, and avoid narrow or biased perspectives. Do we need to look at this from another perspective? Do we need to consider another point of view? Do we need to look at this in other ways? 7. Logicalness This standard requires that information and ideas are presented in a logical and coherent manner, with clear connections and relationships between ideas. To achieve logicalness, it's important to use sound reasoning, avoid fallacies, and use evidence to support claims. Does all of this make sense together? Does your first paragraph fit in with your last one? Does what you say follow from the evidence? 8. Significanc e This standard requires that information and ideas are important and meaningful, with implications for the issue or problem being addressed. To achieve significance, it's important to identify the key issues and questions, consider the implications of information, and evaluate the importance of different ideas. Is this the most important problem to consider? Is this the central idea to focus on? Which of these facts are most important? 9. Fairness This standard requires that information and ideas are presented objectively and without bias, with a respect for different viewpoints and perspectives. To achieve fairness, it's important to avoid personal biases and prejudices, evaluate evidence objectively, and consider different viewpoints and perspectives. Is my thinking justifiable in context? Am I taking into account the thinking of others? Is my purpose fair given the situation? Am I using my concepts in keeping with educated usage, or am I distorting them to get what I want?
